Our Geneva site hosts activities for our biopharmaceutical division, Merck Serono.

Merck Serono S.A.  in Geneva, our divisional HQ and home of the Geneva Research Center, is a state-of-the-art site where employees from Research, Development, Marketing, Global Business Development, Technical Operations and other functions can easily collaborate on their projects. Merck Serono in Geneva offers a fruitful and rich international environment where around 1’200 people from approximately 50 different nationalities interact on a day-to-day basis.

The Geneva Research Center (GRC) is an integral part of the global R&D organization. It is home to an integrated, multinational team of around 200 highly qualified scientists. We focus on the early stages of drug discovery, with the aim of discovering new therapeutics in neurological or rheumatic diseases.


Our Aubonne site hosts activities for our biopharmaceutical division, Merck Serono.

Merck Serono S.A.  in Aubonne has been in operation since 1983. At present, more than 300 employees work on site. Merck Serono S.A.  Aubonne is a fully integrated site including active drug production (Biotech cell culture + purification), Fill & Finish and Packaging production activities. The facility is involved in the manufacturing of 9 recombinant products such as Rebif®, GONAL-f®, Luveris® Ovitrelle®, Saizen®. Manufacturing covers both commercial products, as well as clinical supplies and development batches.


Our Vevey site hosts activities for our biopharmaceutical division, Merck Serono.

Merck Serono S.A.  in Corsier-sur-Vevey has been in operation since 1999. At present, approximately 400 employees work on site in an international and dynamic environment. The Merck Serono Biotech Center in Corsier-sur-Vevey is one of the most technologically advanced biotechnology manufacturing plants in the world and among the largest in Europe.  The capacity of the site has been expanded to enable production of additional innovative biologic therapies by 2012.

The key activities of the site are process development, new technologies and production of the active ingredient for Merck Serono’s multiple sclerosis treatment, Rebif® (interferon bêta-1a) for worldwide markets, as well as production of new molecules for clinical trials.
Our Coinsins site hosts activities for our biopharmaceutical division, Merck Serono.

Merck Serono S.A.  in Coinsins is comprised of packaging activities and shares the site with Ares Trading S.A.. Ares Trading is an affiliate of Merck Serono responsible for performing supply chain activities.


Our Zug site hosts activities for our biopharmaceutical division, Merck Serono, and for our chemical divisions.

Merck (Schweiz) AG is the contact partner for all Swiss customers, medical doctors and pharmacists. The site incorporates the Marketing and Sales organization for Merck Chemicals and Merck Serono in Zug and encloses also medical as well as regulatory activities for the Swiss market. At present, around 65 employees work at this site.
Our Altdorf site hosts activities for our chemicals divisions which are Performance Materials and Merck Millipore.

In Altdorf (UR) Merck & Cie is producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for the Merck group as well as its licensees and products for chromatographic processes. At present, around 100 employees work at this site.
Our Schaffhausen site hosts activities for our chemicals divisions which are Performance Materials and Merck Millipore.

The site in Schaffhausen is the world leading supplier of reduced folates. The site concentrates on the development and production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and high-purity substances for active substance transport or active substance carrying systems (Drug Delivery). Merck & Cie in Schaffhausen employs a staff of around 130 employees.
