Merck (Schweiz) AG

Merck (Schweiz) AG consists of a pharmaceutical and a chemical division.
History
In 1920 the distribution of chemical and pharmaceutical specialties of Merck Darmstadt in Switzerland was transferred to Scheffer & Cie in Zürich. This company was taken over  by  Carl Brandenberger in 1931,  and then by his son, Oscar Brandenberger in 1945.
In 1979 Merck Pharma AG was founded, which acquired the Oscar Brandenberger AG in 1980 and merged it with the Merck Pharma AG.  On January 1st 1985 the brand Merck-Brandenberger AG was renamed into E. Merck (Schweiz) AG.
In 1989 Merck took over a majority stake in ABS Auer, Bittmann, Soulié AG with sites in Basel, Carouge and Dietikon was taken over.
In 1993 the merger of ABS and E. Merck (Schweiz) AG took place. The principal office of ABS in Die¬tikon became the principal office of the new  E. Merck (Schweiz) AG.
1996 E. Merck (Schweiz) AG acquired a 100% shareholding at Lipha Pharma AG, and organized it as an independent  company.
In 1997 E. Merck (Schweiz) changed the name to Merck (Schweiz) AG.
In 1999  Lipha Pharma was integrated into Merck (Schweiz) AG by merger.
On January 1st 2000 Merck's laboratory division was spun off  and was then integrated  in the Merck Eurolab AG, also with site in Dietikon,  Rüchligstrasse 20.
On April 4th 2004 Merck KGaA sold the company VWR International AG to an american investment group.
In january 2007 Merck KGaA acquired Serono  SA and both companies were  merged also in Switzerland. December 2007 both companies moved into the current site at the Chamerstrasse in Zug.  In january 2008 Serono Pharma Schweiz was liquidated and completely integrated into Merck (Schweiz) AG.
